WrestleZone recently spoke with new IMPACT Wrestling World Champion Alex Shelley, who spoke about his legacy in professional wrestling. Shelley recently cut a promo touting himself as “The King of a Generation” and touted how he’s influenced plenty of people. Shelley said all you have to do to see his impact is look online and see his connections.
“I think if you didn’t know me and I said something like that and you knew the other guys [I referenced in the promo],” he explained, “what I would want would be somebody to dig a little deeper. Go down a Google rabbit hole. Just type my name in and see what happens. And once you start digging in the archives like you yourself did, you start to realize that, ‘Oh my God, this guy really is the Kevin Bacon of pro wrestling. This guy is a conduit. This guy is somebody who does connect all corners of the universe.’ And I really do.”
Alex Shelley was asked if there was a match in particular that highlighted that influence he was talking about. Shelley said you might be better served just searching for his name along with your favorite wrestler and see what the results are.
“Sure. I mean, honestly, what they could probably do is type a wrestler that they like now,” Shelley explained, “and then type my name in and see what comes up.”
