Lio Rush opens up about working for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Lio Rush returns home to Washington, D.C., on Saturday to compete at NJPW Capital Collision. At the event, he will team with his CHAOS mates Chuck Taylor and Rocky Romero, as well as Clark Connors and The DKC to take on Kevin Knight, KUSHIDA, Gabriel Kidd, Mike Bailey, and Volador Jr.
Ahead of the 10-man tag match, Rush spoke to Muscle Man Malcolm of Muscle Memory about what he likes about being part of the NJPW roster.
“I love being part of the roster. Honestly, I feel like I don’t even have the words. Literally the best wrestlers on the planet,” Rush said. “The roster is incredible. I mean, the list of legends that are still a part of the New Japan roster are still going strong, that can still put on incredible matches, that can go toe-to-toe with a guy that they came up with, [and] also put on a match with some of the younger talent and it’s still top tier.
“So, I feel like that roster is incredible and an honor to be a part of it. I feel like New Japan is very focused and driven on wrestling skill and ability. I’ve always liked that about professional wrestling, is the actual wrestling and people’s styles. I’m glad that I have a style that stands out within New Japan, but also can get the respect from guys on that roster as well. It feels right, me being part of the New Japan roster. I’m honored and grateful to be part of it really.”
As of late, Rush has been aligned with the CHAOS faction and specifically teamed with YOH to take part in the 2022 Super Junior Tag League. For that, Rush credits Rocky Romero for his help.
“Yeah, my good friend, Rocky Romero. He’s been a key part of my ventures in New Japan so far, so it’s pretty cool that not only was he able to introduce me to New Japan Pro-Wrestling in general, he was also able to get me inside of CHAOS with him being in CHAOS and part of 3K and The Best Friends and all of the good guy gang.” Rush added, “Yeah, he was able to put in a word for YOH, and YOH needed a partner. I showed up and it was a perfect fit.”
