If Rey Mysterio has taught us anything, it’s that the beating he’s about to give his son Dominik Mysterio is long overdue.
SmackDown Superstar Rey Mysterio was a recent guest on The Jason Show to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his upcoming match against his son Dominik at WrestleMania 39, Rey spoke about the story that’s taken place over the last year that’s brought them to this point.
“It is confirmed I will face my son for the very first time,” Rey Mysterio said. “Keep in mind that my son and I were Tag Team Champions just a year and a half ago wrestled as a tag team last year at WrestleMania in Dallas. And now, here we are facing each other.
“I believe, besides Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon, this is the first ever father and son match happening at WrestleMania. So it is pretty exciting. It’s emotional. It’s a roller coaster ride for me. And I believe this story that has been laid out ever since late last year is very relatable to a daily life of an ordinary family.”
When asked if stepping into the ring with his son this weekend is something that is ratcheting up his nerves a bit, Rey admitted that is the case. However, he loves working under pressure.
“Let me give you a perspective of me being the dad, and my son has been in this business for a bit over three years,” Rey Mysterio said. “He’s been in training a very short amount of time. And once he took this opportunity to wrestle for the first time, I was more nervous than me wrestling for the first time because you want your kids to do good in life in general. But yes, my nerves are horrible right now. My anxiety is horrible. But I think it’s something that I’ve always been able to deal with when the time comes. I love working under pressure.”
Rey Mysterio offered some hilarious final words in the interview to state that the beating he’s going to give Dominik is dedicated to all the fathers out there putting up with their kids like he is.
“The beating that I give my son is dedicated to all those fathers that are putting up with their kids like I am,” Rey Mysterio said.
The idea of Rey Mysterio beating up his son Dominik has been a longstanding joke on social media going back to the release of the WWE ’13 video game when the Master of the 619 sent out a hilarious tweet about beating his kids in the video game.
