There are still some dream matches that Edge wishes he could have had in his illustrious career.
WWE Hall of Famer Edge recently sat down with Sportsnet to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about who he wishes he could have stepped into the ring with during their prime, The Rated R Superstar picked Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bret Hart.
“Steve Austin was a guy that was at the top of the card, and we were doing the TLC matches,” Edge said. “So, our careers coincided, but never at the point where it was like, I had become “Rated-R Superstar,” and he was “The Texas Rattlesnake,” because I feel like that would have been really fun. I got to wrestle Bret Hart a couple of times, but it wasn’t during the prime of his career, so we didn’t really fully coincide.
“Those are the two guys that I wish I had been able to…like, if you take us both at our primes, get in there with, I think that would have been really cool. Because, if I look at it…this is technically my fourth decade of doing this, and within those four decades…again, Mr. Perfect, Owen Hart, Bret Hart, Bad News Brown, Rick Martel, [Hacksaw Jim Duggan], Jerry Lawler, Terry Funk, and then that’s before I get to the Undertaker’s, and Ric Flair’s, and Shawn Michaels’, and now the John Cena’s, and Randy Orton’s, and the Seth Rollins,’ and the Roman Reigns.’
“It’s kind of crazy when I think about it, and someone this year had told me that I’ve been in four decades of Royal Rumbles. And when I hear something like that, that kind of…it blows my mind a little bit.”
Edge and Austin only shared the ring on three occasions, one of which was the 1999 Royal Rumble match. The two other matches were both multi-man tag matches that took place on RAW in 2001.
