Despite the ongoing confusion surrounding her ring name, Mia Yim has grown accustomed to both titles.
Since returning to WWE in November, Mia Yim has fluctuated between her long-time ring name and a new moniker. “Michin” currently appears as the name in reference to Yim’s appearances on social media and on-screen programming. However, upon inspection of WWE’s official website, her bio dubs her as Mia Yim. This has left many fans wondering what to exactly call the RAW superstar.
Speaking on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Yim explained that WWE seemed to offer up “Michin” initially as a nickname. As a nod to her Korean roots, Yim adopted the moniker of “Michin,” meaning “crazy,” from her mother as she grew up. “The biggest thing that I want everyone to know is, I’m okay with this name. Everything new, not, everyone’s going to like it, I get it, but I’m okay with this name. It’s better than Reckoning,” she admitted, “so I’m not going to complain about this name,” she admitted.
Yim believes “Michin” will remain a nickname for now but reiterated that she’s accepting of the possibility for it to become her permanent name one day, “I just want everyone to know, you don’t have to set the building on fire [over the possible name change], it’s okay,” she said. “It’s also a challenge for me to make it work. It might not work now because for 12 years I’ve been Mia Yim. So, of course, something different, something new people are not going to like it. ‘Why are you changing something that’s not broken?’ It’s like, ‘okay, but this may be just a challenge. Let me see if I can get you to love Michin just as much as you love Mia Yim, if that were the case.”
