AEW President Tony Khan comments on the possibility of a wrestling world cup.
IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada recently stated that he wants to compete in a wrestling world cup. He noted that he’d go see Khan and WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H to if necessary in order to make t happen.
Speaking with Tim Battle on the Battleground Podcast, Khan was asked about Okada’s comments. In response, he referenced his experience working with other companies, including NJPW, as the two promotions collaborated for the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in 2022. Khan also stated that he’s open to the idea.
“I’ve got experience working with different promotions and promoting angles and matches and storylines across different storylines,” Khan said. “It can be challenging, but we came together with New Japan Pro-Wrestling to put on I think the best pay-per-view of the year last year, Forbidden Door. There are challenges in putting on an event like that and getting the matches set. But certainly it’s something I would be open to. I’m open to working with anybody in pro wrestling. So you never know.”
