Billy Corgan isn’t fueled by coffee, but rather by tea.
Outside of running the National Wrestling Alliance, Billy Corgan has spent over three decades on the road with his band, the Smashing Pumpkins. Since its formation in 1988, Corgan has remained a permanent fixture in the group as a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter, with many tours in the books. With a hectic schedule, many may turn to coffee to keep their energy up, but not Billy Corgan.
“I actually don’t drink coffee,” he told WrestlingNewsCo’s Steve Fall. “I’ve never drank coffee in my whole life.” Corgan continued, noting he did enjoy caffeine, but preferably in tea form. “I own a tea house [Madame ZuZu‘s Tea Emporium in Chicago]. Some people might know that. So, I do serve some of the best teas in the world. I’m more of a tea drinker, but I’m not a big fan of the smell of coffee,” he said.
On March 4, Corgan will gear up for another tour in Mexico City, playing at a music festival entitled The World Is A Vampire — a name reminiscent of a popular lyric from “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” released by the Smashing Pumpkins as a single in 1995. When asked if he still thinks the world is indeed a vampire, Corgan stood by his previous statement.
“I wrote that lyric in 1994 sitting in the BBC Studios in London, and here we are, 26 years later or something like that. The lyric still holds up pretty good, right? The world, at least in our lifetime, has never been more mendacious, if you want to look that word up. That means not nice.”
