The inaugural NJPW World Television Champion was crowned at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
On January 4, NJPW held Wrestle Kingdom 17 at the Tokyo Dome, and Zack Sabre Jr. faced Ren Narita in the finals of a tournament. Sabre Jr. ultimately emerged victorious, as he made Narita tap out. After the bell, TMDK (Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls) offered Sabre Jr. a TMDK shirt, and he accepted. In doing so, he seemingly joined the group.
Sabre Jr. had previously been a member of Suzuki-gun, but the group disbanded at the end of 2022.

Sabre Jr. punched his ticket to the tournament finals by defeating Alex Zayne, David Finlay, and EVIL. Meanwhile, Narita beat Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano, and SANADA to advance to the finals.
