Kurt Angle is putting family first, but that doesn’t mean he’s closing the door on a possible backstage role down the line.
During a recent episode of The Kurt Angle Show, Angle was asked about potentially working with All Elite Wrestling. Angle said he did speak with Tony Khan before and threw out some “astronomical” numbers, but now he’s happy with his current relationship with WWE.
“Honestly, I talked to Tony a couple times and I dabbled and threw some numbers at him that were astronomical, just to see if he would bite. But Tony’s a good guy. He was a big fan of mine. I was the one he told me he wanted in his company because he felt I was one of his favorite wrestlers. I guess he was a huge wrestling fan growing up. So I was considering it, but now I have such a solid relationship with the WWE. I have a nostalgia contract with them, I do a lot of programming on TV with WWE. So I don’t think it’s gonna happen, unfortunately, but I’m happy where I am. I look back, and I know I left the WWE in 2006 and came in 2017. I don’t regret that because I had a great career in TNA. But a small part of me says I wish I would have stayed. I can’t imagine what my career would have been like if I would have continued on for another 11 years in WWE. So I’m just happy to be where I am right now.”
Kurt Angle was then asked if he would ever consider a backstage role in WWE creative. Angle said he’s focused on his family right now, but wouldn’t rule it out in the future.
“Perhaps. Not right now. Right now my focus is my family. I spent so much time away from them that I love actually spending time with them. We’re literally going on three vacations this year. That’s how much time I’m spending with my family. Not right now, maybe later. To be honest with you, I’m really good in the ring. I can teach technique, I can teach psychology. I’m not that creative at making storylines, drawing out stories and stuff like that. It was never my forte, but what I could do is take a script and cut a damn good promo. There’s a big difference in creating it and doing it, and I was better at doing it than creating it.”
