Matt Cardona discusses his time with IMPACT Wrestling by praising the company and offering a brief comment about his future.
Cardona worked for WWE from 2005-2020; he had a memorable run as Zack Ryder, as he won the WWE Intercontinental, United States, and Tag Team Championships. WWE released Cardona in a wave of cuts in April 2020. After a brief run win AEW, he landed with IMPACT Wrestling; he debuted at the Hard to Kill pay-per-view in 2021. Since then, Cardona has been one of the featured members of the roster, and he has won the IMPACT Digital Media Championship. He has also reinvented himself on the independent scene, as he has competed all over the wrestling world. Cardona has captured the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship and the GCW World Championship, among other titles.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Cardona shared his thoughts on his time with IMPACT Wrestling up to his point. He stated that his run with the company helped him get his confidence back. The Internet Champion made it clear that he’s been having fun working with Chelsea Green and Brian Myers. However, he admitted that he doesn’t know what’s next for him in IMPACT. He stated that the company is great, and it puts ion an awesome show.
“IMPACT has been so much fun. IMPACT kind of gave me the first bigger opportunity, once I got released from WWE, and it definitely helped me get my confidence back,” Cardona said. “Getting to do the stuff with Chelsea Green, and with Brian Meyers with the Major Players has been a lot of fun. But I’m not sure what’s next for me in IMPACT.
“I think it’s great, I think that the roster is awesome, I think the actual show, if people watch it, it’s an awesome show, where things make sense, and the storylines, they actually have a beginning, middle, and end. I just think that a lot of people have given up on IMPACT, and they don’t want to give it another chance. And I think that’s a shame, because it’s a great, great product.
Cardona also discussed his work on the independent scene. He noted that, while some people only want the big bookings, some of his favorites come in places where he doesn’t even know where he is.
“A lot of people, they feel entitled, they only want the big bookings,” Cardona said. “Listen, some of my favorite bookings are the ones where I’m like ‘What the f—, where am I?’ But they end up having a lot of fun, and you can’t judge a book by its cover.”
In the same interview, Cardona noted that sometimes, he’s so busy that he has to schedule when he goes to the bathroom.
