Luke Hawx discusses his role on Young Rock and his growing career outside of the wrestling ring.
In the past, Hawx has done stunt work in The Fate of the Furious and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, among other projects. He remains active as a wrestler, and he also founded Wildkat Sports. Meanwhile, he continues to build his career in the acting world; he will be in the Christmas special of Young Rock, which airs on NBC at 8:30 p.m. ET on December 16
Speaking with Joe Mason of Bucks County Courier Times, Hawx discussed his first time on Young Rock and noted that his background as a wrestler helped him feel comfortable acting in front of people.
“The first time I was on, my phone blew up with everyone texting and calling,” Hawx said. “When you’re acting, there are people watching, and you have to feel comfortable in front of them. It helped that I had the experience of being comfortable in front of big crowds.”
Heels showrunner Mike O’Malley has gotten to know Hawx throughout their time together on the show; Luke worked as the wrestling and stunt coordinator, he played a character in the first season, and he’ll return in season two. O’Malley highlighted Hawx’s work ethic and made it clear that no one works harder than he does.
“He’s a wrestler, performer and actor, but he recognizes what it does for his own exposure,” O’Malley said. “He walks the walk. He’s in the gym, he’s doing the work. You’re not going to outwork him.”
It’s safe to say that Hawx has a busy schedule, but he made it clear that he loves what he’s doing, and he’s thankful for the opportunities. He also noted that he enjoys the grind, and he does his best to hit a home run with every role.
“Always on to the next thing, right?” Hawx said. “I’m very fortunate. I’m doing what I love, I’m working with great people, I’m able to share it with my family. It’s a grind, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying the grind.
“The pro wrestling will always be there. That’s where I came from. But it’s fun to write other chapters. I’m definitely growing. Every role, I try to hit it out of the park. I’m fortunate enough to work with great people who are helping me. I can see the improvement, and I’m learning. That’s the best part. The goal is to always get better. I’m doing that and having fun while doing it.”
