Ricochet says his win in the SmackDown World Cup showed that he’s still a main player who can get the job done in big matches.
Speaking on WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves, Ricochet reflected on his past year and noted that he’s had ups and downs. The former WWE Intercontinental Champion emphasized that he’s always willing to put in the work, and he’s confident in his ability to knock it out of the park when he gets opportunities.
“The way I see it is, I’ve never been one to complain about doing work,” Ricochet said. “Anywhere I’ve gone, that’s when I’ve started in 2003 up to now, I’ve never been one to shy away, to be afraid of doing work, put the work in. So this past couple years, it’s definitely been a lot of work. Not just on myself, but in general. I’ve had my ups and I’ve had my downs, but it’s never deterred me from doing the work and putting my head down and doing what I gotta do to get where I need to get. Everyone’s had a hard road, all the main players, the top guys, whatever you want to call them, they’ve all had a hard road.
“So having a hard road isn’t something that necessarily is foreign to me. If it’s something that I gotta do, if I gotta put my head down and do the work for a year and she y’all I can do this, but if you give me that one opportunity, I’m gonna knock it out of the park. I think this year, as much as I haven’t had the spotlight on me, I guess you would say, I haven’t really had that on me this year. However, the moment that it was on me, I’ve gone up for Match of the Year contender. The very few moments that I did get the spotlight on me are Match of the Year contenders. That just shows you quality over quantity for a little bit. But I think this was good for me.
Ricochet also commented on his victory in the SmackDown World Cup and stated that he was glad to represent both WWE and the United States. He shared his belief that the victory proved that he’s still a “main player” in WWE.
“I think the SmackDown World Cup on FOX was good for me, and that’s something that FOX wanted to do” Ricochet said. “They specifically wanted to do the SmackDown World Cup, so it’s good that I could come out and I could represent not only for America, but for WWE and just win the entire thing and show people that Ricochet is still a main player here. He can still get the job done in the big matches.”
Due to his win in the SmackDown World Cup, Ricochet will challenge Gunther for the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the December 16 episode of WWE SmackDown.
