Eddie Edwards Explains Why Legends Don’t Have To Put Newer Talent Over In Every Situation

Eddie Edwards is open to working with legends and thinks it’s OK for them to go over when the right situation calls for it.

Speaking with Joey Karni on The Angle Podcast, Eddie Edwards was asked about working a potential storyline with Tommy Dreamer or Bully Ray on IMPACT TV. Edwards says he’s open to it, noting the close relationship they have with each other.

“For me and Tommy, we are friends outside of wrestling as well. He’s like the crazy uncle, crazy stepdad type of character. He’s really done a lot for me in my career, so I think the story of sensei [and] student type of thing, teacher versus student, would always be a story that me and Tommy could do. Also, me and Bully, when me and Davey came into IMPACT and TNA, we were wrestling Team 3D. So we have a lot of history there, where we on the tag titles in matches with Team 3D and The Hardys, so I think that story also kind of writes itself,” Edwards noted. “The great thing about wrestling is you can find a story anywhere you look if you just look hard enough. I think it’d be easy to find a story between me and Tommy and me and Bully as well.”

Edwards was then asked about the perception of older talent coming in to put over new talent and build toward the future. Edwards said as long as it’s the right situation, he’s open to legends going over too. It won’t happen each time but if it’s the right story, he’s open to it.

“I think as long as it’s the right situation, as long as it’s not forced one way or the other, just to come in and to put somebody over and help a young guy get a win, sure, that’s great. But if it’s to tell a story, you can build it where it really means something in the end, that is so much bigger than just coming in and losing or putting somebody over. I think it can be done the right way one way or the other. I don’t think every situation is the same, so not every time a legend comes in do they have to put somebody over,” Edwards said. “It’s not always the right story. But if it’s the right story and it adds up correctly, then I say go for it.”
