The Watch List takes a look at what matches you should be watching and they come recommended by today’s professional wrestling stars.
WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard recently spoke with Rick Recon, who picked one particular match with Nikos Rikos that stood out and took the audience on a fun ride.
“It’s for a different promotion that I’ve worked for, Titan Championship Wrestling. It’s in the south Jersey area, but I wrestled Nikos Rikos in a two-out-of-three falls match that was about 36 minutes. That would probably be the match I would sit people down and watch to have them see this is who they’re getting. That was a little while ago, and I have evolved and grown since then, but if you wanted to pull up a match that I can think of, that’s just like, ‘Wow, that took people on a ride,’ because I remember being in it, and it was a ride. That one, I always remember that match. People bring it up to me too. It’s funny because I’m just like, ‘It was just an independent match,’ but people bring it up to me. Fans, not just workers, fans bring it up to me, and it’s like, ‘Wow, people actually remember this.’ Because sometimes you do this and you’re like, ‘Oh, are people gonna remember it?’ They do and it’s like, ‘Okay, you did your job. You did what you were supposed to do.’ That is definitely a match that I will always love, will always cherish.”
“We wrestled each other—I think that was our third match for that particular company. And it was a rivalry that was about a year-long, spread out obviously over the year. The first time we wrestled each other was the first independent show back from the pandemic. It was like June 2020. I think we were the first company to run a show. It was an outdoor show. But yeah, that was the first time I wrestled him, and we did a few more subsequent times. Then the following September 2021, that was when that match was, the two-out-of-three, because it had to come to an end because we pretty much a draw in every match. They were literally all three [draws], so we were like, ‘Okay, this has to be something big’ or something that cements who the winner really was, and that was that match. He was an absolute professional. He is really good. I feel he’s very underrated and shouldn’t be. He’s excellent in the ring, far better than some people will give him credit for. That’s definitely a match I would pull up anytime.”
