KiLynn King: Why Limit Myself To One Place When I Can Conquer All Over?

KiLynn King wants to be everywhere.

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with KiLynn King ahead of NWA Hard Times 3, where she will face Kamille and Chelsea Green for the NWA Women’s Championship. King has made a name for herself in several major promotions including NWA and AEW, and she just debuted for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Asked if she aspires to be a “journeywoman” as she travels across the world instead of being exclusive to one brand, King shared how her perspective changed.

“It’s definitely something that I’ve aspired to accomplish. I kind of knew that my career in AEW wasn’t going to become a contractual one. It was just one of those things where after a certain amount of time, you just kind of know,” King said. “When I made that realization, I was like, ‘You know what? Screw it. I want to be everywhere.’

“You’re not really going to be 100% sure if that’s going to happen, but you work towards that goal. This past year, I’ve just been working my butt off, making sure that my face is all over the place. I think that method worked because, like you said, I ended up in NWA, and then just last weekend I was able to find myself in a New Japan promotion working by Mayu Iwatani and not only working her,” King noted, “but working her for a title shot that’s for the SWA World Championship. That’s an incredible debut, in my opinion. It’s one of those things, too, where it’s like, that’s an opportunity that I hoped would happen, but I wasn’t 100% [sure], because we’re getting close to the end of the year.”

King said she just hopes she leaves a good impression no matter wherever she works.

“My hope is that I just left a good impression and hopefully I’ll be back to do some more work with [New Japan], because that’s definitely been a huge goal, is to be involved with Stardom and New Japan,” she noted. “I feel like it’s less now about getting a contract and more now about where’s my face gonna pop up kind of thing. Why limit myself to one place when I can conquer all over? I feel like that’s what my journey this year has been is ‘where am I going to pop up next’ kind of thing.”

KiLynn King is set to challenge for the NWA Women’s Championship at Hard Times in New Orleans.
