The return of Colt Cabana Wednesday night on AEW Dynamite was met with a very positive reaction from various people in the locker room.
Cabana returned to All Elite Wrestling in Baltimore earlier this week to challenge Chris Jericho for the Ring of Honor World Championship.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote about Cabana’s surprise return Wednesday night on AEW Dynamite and how positively it went over in the locker room.
“Cabana appearing led to even more talk because people saw it as a shot at Punk or a vindication of the story that Cabana stopped being used in AEW due to Punk. Whatever it was, it was Tony Khan’s idea,” Meltzer wrote.
“We were told that this was more for the locker room than anything else, that having Cabana on the show and given a positive spotlight after months of being ostracized for reasons that had nothing to do with him was a dressing room morale booster since he had many friends there.”
In regards to whether this was considered a full-time return to weekly AEW programming, Meltzer noted this was simply a one-off and that he’s still under contract exclusively to the Ring of Honor brand.
“As best we can tell, Cabana was only in for that one match but is still under contract to ROH, but is no longer ostracized and could be used again in some form.”
The next scheduled show for Ring of Honor is the annual Final Battle pay-per-view that will take place on Saturday, December 10, in Arlington, Texas.
