WWE will remain on Hulu.
The company’s rights deal with the streaming platform was set to expire in September, which would have meant that WWE’s library of content would have left the service.
However, during the third quarter earnings call, WWE co-CEO Nick Khan announced that the company has extended its rights deal with Hulu. He also stated that a new series featuring Bianca Belair and Montez Ford will premiere in 2023.
“Also in 2023, WWE Studios will premiere a new series a Hulu, featuring Superstars Bianca Belair and Montez Ford,” Khan said. “The eight-episode first season is currently in production. We are also pleased to be doing more business with our friends at Disney and Hulu, where we’ve also recently extended our RAW re-air rights deal.”
Later in the call, WWE President Frank A. Riddick III noted that the two sides agreed to a short-term extension, as WWE wanted to align the align the timeline for all of its rights deals ahead of more negotiations in 2023.
“As we previously disclosed, our agreement with Hulu for the RAW re-air rights expired at the end of September,” Riddick said. “In our discussions with Hulu about extending the relationship, we expressed our desire to align the timing of the rights and windows for our content so as to best position WWE for the upcoming renewal discussions in 2023.
“As a result, we entered into a short-term extension that we believe balances the desires of both sides. We are pleased with the outcome, but it will create a modest headwind in our financials for fourth quarter and for 2023.
