Report: NOAH Had Concerns About AEW Before Booking Shinsuke Nakamura

Pro Wrestling NOAH was reportedly concerned about its relationship with All Elite Wrestling before it booked Shinsuke Nakamura for its “The New Year” event on January 1.

NOAH previously announced that Nakamura, who is under contract with WWE, will face Great Muta as part of the legend’s retirement tour. Tokyo Sports subsequently reported that there were some disagreements between NOAH and WWE in the early stages, but the two sides came to an agreement after Vince McMahon retired and the new regime took over.

In an update, Dominic DeAngelo of Wrestling Inc. reported that Paul “Triple H” Levesque himself contacted NOAH to make sure the Muta match was still on the table, and the latter promotion called on Sonny Onoo to act as a facilitator. Per DeAngelo, Onoo noted that NOAH wanted to protect its new connection with AEW and wanted to clear booking Nakamura with them, given his ties to WWE.

“Noah wanted to protect the newly developing relationship with AEW,” Onoo said. “I made sure they were no objections from various promotions.”

All parties involved agreed to the match, and it was announced shortly thereafter.
