A bombshell was dropped in the pro wrestling world over the weekend when Pro Wrestling NOAH revealed that Shinsuke Nakamura will wrestle for the promotion on January 1, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan against The Great Muta.
Keiji Mutoh (The Great Muta) recently announced that he will retire in February of 2023. His last match will be a tag match with Sting, but he will wrestle as The Great Muta to open the new year against Nakamura.
Nakamura has not competed for a company other than WWE since 2016 when he wrestled his last NJPW match. Nakamura took to Twitter to react to the announcement, saying “This is miracle.”
This comes as a surprise to many as Nakamura is currently signed to WWE and the match will take place outside of WWE, meaning the company signed off approving Nakamura to have this match.
On New Year's Day, fans will see pro wrestling's biggest dream match in 2023.
