AEW World Champion Jon Moxley signed a contract extension with the company, and the announcement of the move noted that Moxley will only wrestle for AEW and its international partners. This detail led to some speculation about his status with Game Changer Wrestling, and a new report has provided more information.
At the time of the announcement, Moxley was the reigning GCW World Champion, and he was set to face Nick Gage in a Title vs. Career Match at GCW Fight Club Night One. After the news of his extension became public, he still worked the match, and Gage beat him for the title.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Moxley is done with GCW for now, and he’s not alone. Per GCW sources, AEW didn’t want Moxley to do the Homecoming match, and the company has asked talent not to work for GCW for months. However, Moxley insisted on finishing his run, which culminated at Homecoming. As of this writing, he is not scheduled for any future dates with the company.
AEW’s Stokely Hathaway and W. Morrisey interfered in the finish of the match, and GCW sources claim that they did not have any say regarding the way the finish of the match was booked.
Sapp cited sources who believe that Moxley will still be able to work independent dates, but they think these shows will be on a surprise basis. Previously, companies often loaded up the shows Moxley was on in order to maximize them.
