Road Dogg Explains Why WWE Talking Smack Was Canceled In 2017

Road Dogg says WWE Talking Smack was pulled from the WWE Network due to logistical reasons.

WWE Talking Smack premiered in 2016 following the return of the brand split. Unfortunately for fans of the post-SmackDown talk show, the weekly program was canceled in July 2017 after nearly a year. During the latest episode of his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, Road Dogg explained that the show wasn’t worth it logistically.

“It simply was not worth it. It was a business decision where handling, shipping that big desk, you have to stay later, and so the people get paid for overtime. And you know what I mean? It logistically, it did not work, and it wasn’t doing great numbers, like people talk about it a lot because it was really good,” the former SmackDown writer said.

“Like it was really good, alternate content where people got to express themselves sometimes a little differently than they did on the television show.” He continued, “And that’s the interesting part, that’s what makes it now like a cult following like, ‘Oh, my God, that thing was great.’ Yeah, but none of you were watching it when it was on or else it would have stayed on, you know. It has to match the outgoing revenue, and then some hopefully. But yeah, it just didn’t do well.”

Talking Smack returned in August 2020 on Peacock. The show was renamed “The SmackDown LowDown” in June and still streams live on Peacock every Friday night.
