Eddie Kingston has high hopes for Action Bronson in AEW.
The New York rapper will make his professional wrestling debut on the September 23rd edition of AEW Rampage: Grand Slam. There, he will team with FTW Champion Hook to take on Angelo Parker and Matt Menard at Arthur Ashe Stadium. In speaking with WFAN, Kingston explained his thoughts on Action Bronson’s upcoming debut, giving a nod to his fellow New Yorker.
“You don’t have to tell him nothing. My man knows how to scrap,” Kingston said of Bronson. “If you know how to scrap, if you know how to defend yourself, you’ll be all right. That dude’s an animal. Let’s be real about it. You know what I mean? I heard about the workouts. Even though my man HOOK talks like three, four words, like every other day, he told me straight up, he was like, ‘Yo, those workouts, yeah, they’re real.’ He even invited me and I was like, ‘Nah, man, I’m good. I’m sorry. I got my own stuff.’
“I ain’t trying to die in front of Action Bronson,” he declared. “Let me go out with a little bit of pride. I love it. I love that he’s another New Yorker. How can you not love it?”
Eddie Kingston continued on to explain the local connection between himself and Bronson. “I know everyone’s gonna be like ‘east coast bias’ or whatever. It’s a thing,” he stressed. “It’s an everyday neighborhood, but since I’m from New York, I’m gonna say it’s from New York. You just go to each other, cause you understand everything. You understand the bacon, egg and cheese. Salt, pepper ketchup. You understand the chopped cheese, you understand going to the corner. You understand where the bodegas are, you know about C-Town, and all that. So you understand it. You just go to each other.”
The New York scene stays close to the heart of “The Mad King.” In anticipation of AEW Grand Slam in Queens, Kingston shared why the city means so much to him.
“Because it’s home, it’s the greatest thing in the world for me when I go out there, because I’m home,” he explained. “They can cheer or boo me, I don’t care. I’m home. I never cared if people cheered or booed me. I do what I do and that’s it. No apologies about it. But man, it’s home, jow can you not love it? How can you not get goose bumps? How can you not feel alive when you’re home?”
“I remember a little inside baseball for you. After my match last year, against me and Mox against [Minoru] Suzuki and Lance [Archer], and Homicide made the save. I went to the back and I was just screaming and yelling and throwing punches in the air, saying how you know–talking my trash, yelling “Yonkers! 730!’ and all this stuff, just screaming. People thought I was mad, New York is in the building, we’re like ‘nah, he’s happy.’ You just get pumped up, and it’s just a different feeling.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love Chicago. Always gotta mention Chicago, I always do. Because Chicago, I did a lot of independents, AAW and other places. Chicago was true to me. So I got to give a shout out in Chicago. Got to give a shout-out to Jacksonville because that’s where I started at AEW. I was there for months and Jacksonville treated me great, man. So I got to give them love, but New York is home. You’re never going to get that feeling like when you’re home.”
