Action Bronson discusses his upcoming in-ring debut.
The rapper made the save at the Zero Hour pre-show ahead of AEW All Out, where Angelo Parker and Matt Menard attacked HOOK. Bronson, who performs “Chairman’s Intent,” HOOK’s theme song, and the FTW Champion have been teasing a match between the duos ever since, and it has been confirmed for AEW Rampage: Grand Slam.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Bronson was asked whether getting into the ring was something he previously wanted to do.
“ I always practiced, Bronson said. “I never thought that it’d be attainable. You don’t think that that type of thing is attainable. But you practice and you do moves on each other in the rooms and s— like that. So it always lived through us. Just not professionally. I was a fan, I just enjoyed it. Never thought that it would ever happen.”
Helwani then asked Bronson to describe how his in-ring involvement with AEW came together. He noted that, after the initial idea called for him to walk HOOK to the ring, he started training.
“They has the idea first for me to walk him down to the ring, and then I started training a little bit, and they saw my athleticism and my prowess.
He elaborated and stated that he has been training at Create A Pro.
“At Long Island, at the same place MJF did,” Bronson said. “I don’t know if it’s known or not, but it’s called Create A Pro, I’d like to give them a plug because they showed a lot of love. It’s a school. It’s a dojo [run by] Pat Buck. Taz got everything hooked up through there, and just started f—- around, teaching me s—-. Nine-ten weeks ago, not that long. Things started moving from there.
When asked, he joked that he hasn’t been taking bumps. Instead, he has been focusing on his offense, though he also enjoys running the ropes.
“Taking a bump is not, I just f—— practice offense,” Bronson said. “F— that. I don’t fall. I have in the contract, I don’t fall. F— that. But nah, taking bumps is serious. It’s not an easy thing. I’ve worked out and I’ve trained in different styles of training before, and this is definitely one of the toughest. I love [running the ropes.] It’s intense, it makes me feel good, makes me feel strong. But you have to hit them right, there’s no doubt about it. You have to be taught these things, there’s right ways and there’s wrong ways.”
Earlier in the interview, Bronson described how he has gotten in better shape over the past two years. When asked whether he could have wrestled before this change, he noted that he wouldn’t have been able do a hurricanrana.
“Not to the point where I’m at now,” Bronson said. “I don’t think I would have been able to do a hurricanrana. I can do lots of things that I’m not gonna pull out of the bag. Just know that there’s an arsenal of over 1,000 moves. I have more than him [Dean Malenko].”
Helwani also asked Bronson whether he’ll have more matches after Grand Slam, he stated that he’s not a member of the roster, but he’s a “hitman” for hire.
“I’m not a part of the roster, but I’m definitely, I’m a hired gun,” Bronson said. “I’m a f— hitman right now for hire.”
