Jacob Fatu wants to go back to War.
As of late, Fatu has showed a new side on MLW Fusion, sharing a more lighthearted side in some of his promos with the Samoan Swat Team. Asked about the change in personality, Fatu said he’s just being himself but knows that the transition has been good for him overall.
“That’s just me being me. If anybody knows me, for shoot, in the business knows I’ve always been the same, you know? One thing, man, you really try to play that character outside and in the real life, it’s really going to get you beat up for real, for real. It’s just being myself, man. That’s it, man. That’s it. Don’t switch up for nobody, you know, because people are going to love you for who you are. But overall, throughout that transition with the Contra [Unit] there, Simon Gotch, Mads Krugger, Daivari, Josef Samael out there,” Fatu explained, “it was good for the Contra. It was also good to have that solo run as well.”
“It’s a good platform,” Fatu added. “It’s just like what Faarooq said back in the day, man. Times evolve, man. You got to move with the times, you know? And you just got to stay fresh. You stay relevant.”
Asked if there was anything else he wished he got to do as part of the Contra Unit stable, Fatu said he wishes they got to do more with the War Chamber stipulation. MLW has hosted the match twice since 2019 and he has competed in the match both times, but the Samoan Werewolf wishes Contra got more opportunities to battle MLW’s best.
“I felt like it should have been War Games with two rings, [later renamed MLW War Chamber]. MLW was known for having that back in the day with Sabu and Dusty Rhodes. I thought it would have been cool to have our team up in there, Contra versus The Hart Dynasty or Contra versus The Hart Dynasty and The Von Erichs in two rings surrounded by cages. It probably would have been better to have Contra collect all the gold,” Fatu said. “It probably would have been good to have more six-man tags and eight-man tags [too].
“Shout-out to all of the Contra fans because even though Contra is not together, I’m still making cities and states for shows, there’s always a Contra shirt or a Contra flag flying around,” Fatu added. “Shout-out to all the Black Hand followers out there.”
