Jacob Fatu is ready to get it cracking in Chicago.
The Wrestling Showcase will take place on September 3 and Jacob Fatu will be facing off with IMPACT Wrestling’s Steve Maclin in the first round of the tournament. Fatu spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about how he’s feeling going into the tournament as well as facing off with a star on the rise in Maclin.
“It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been back to Chicago. Chicago kind of actually really brought out — that’s how everybody started to recognize me at first, coming out there to AAW and MLW. But speaking about the Showcase on September 3rd, man, it’s just a great way to come back,” Fatu explained, “especially with a tournament having all that big talent on there. Maclin, he’s just like any other worker out here, but different in his own ways. I mean that in a good way, you know? So, man, it’s a pleasure, though, man. It’s a pleasure. And it’s good just to get back and just get sh-t cracking.”
While he’s not looking past Maclin at all, one possible second-round matchup would see Fatu face off with Brian Myers or Matt Cardona, who both interfered in his match against Josh Alexander at Ric Flair’s Last Match in Nashville. Fatu noted that there are plenty of ways this could play out, but he’ll settle things somehow.

Asked about a possible rematch with Alexander in the tournament or otherwise, Fatu said that it needs to happen at some point, at least for some closure on what was a great match in Nashville.
“It just goes back to two cats putting everything on the line and dedicating their lives to professional wrestling. I’m talking about me and Josh Alexander. So with that being said, it’s definitely going to happen. You know, why wouldn’t it? You know, and it wouldn’t happen just because the fans want it to happen or just because that’s just the match build-up or anything. I think it needs to happen because, it was already going well over there, Ric Flair’s Last Match in Nashville. But, I would feel a whole lot better if there was some closure at the end of the match just between us two.”
The Wrestling Showcase will hold its inaugural event at The Hyatt Regency in Schaumburg, Illinois, and fans can watch worldwide on FITE. The tournament is part of AdFreeShows.com‘s Top Guy Weekend, and the following first-round matches are set for the tournament:
- Josh Alexander vs. Moose
- Rich Swann vs. Johnny Showcase (John Morrison / John Hennigan)
- Steve Maclin vs. Jacob Fatu
- Matt Cardona/Brian Myers vs. Tatanka
