The first full match of the upcoming All Elite Wrestling console game AEW Fight Forever was revealed this morning at Gamescom.
This morning AEW Games hosted a Twitch stream live from Gamescom 2022, where All Elite Wrestling stars Evil Uno and Colt Cabana showed off the first full match of AEW Fight Forever which featured a one-on-one match between Kenny Omega and Adam Cole.
While the gameplay footage showcased short clips of the entrances for both Omega and Cole, the THQ Nordic rep stated that there would be full entrances in the game. We would also like to stress that the rep seemed less than knowledgeable with the information he was giving out, so we aren’t 100% certain that full entrances will be in the final build of the game or if they will be more in line with the entrances that we saw from WWF No Mercy on the N64. A game this Fight Forever is heavily inspired by.
The gameplay, which we were told already looks better in the current build than what was shown today, is a perfect combination of the AKI engine that built great games like WWF No Mercy and WCW vs. nWo: Revenge with the speed of a SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain.
Those familiar with the No Mercy hud and control scheme will seemingly feel right at home with AEW Fight Forever.
Kenny Omega won the match with an Avalance One Winged Angel off the top rope. Each wrestler can have up to five different signatures and finishers in their moveset.
Following the presentation, questions were taken from the viewers on Twitch, and here are some of the tidbits and information regarding the game:
- Wrestlers can face themselves in the game (mentions of Paul Wight vs. Paul Wight happened)
- There are both grapple and strike blocks tied to separate buttons
- There will be free updates following the game’s release, as well as paid DLC
- William Regal is involved in the Tutorial, but they implied that he wouldn’t be a playable character
- There are currently no steel cage matches or custom championships in the game
A demo of AEW Fight Forever is playable at Gamescom 2022 and features six stars from the roster, including:
- CM Punk
- Kenny Omega
- Adam Cole
- Paul Wight
- Hikaru Shida
- Thunder Rosa
