Matt Cardona is “alwayz ready”, and he’ll be ready to sing this September as he stars in The Last Match: A Pro Wrestling Rock Musical in New Jersey.
Jeremiah James was a guest on today’s episode of Busted Open Radio with Dave LeGreca and Thunder Rosa to discuss a wide variety of subjects. During the interview, James revealed that former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Matt Cardona would star in The Last Match: A Pro Wrestling Rock Musical on September 26 at the White Eagle Hall in Jersey City.
“The thing that is most exciting for us is the first cast member we’re announcing for specifically September 26. Again, we wanted somebody that truly embodied the spirit of being a heel,” Jeremiah James said. “It’s somebody that I had followed his career for years when he was in the WWE. It was one of those pie-in-the-sky moments like, ‘Nah, he’ll probably just think this is crazy. I’m not up for it, but thanks.’ It was funny because some of this part was written with him in mind.
“So we’re thrilled to announce here today on Busted Open that Matt Cardona will be starring as the heel character Alexander Swagger in our premiere pro wrestling concert version of The Last Match of Pro Wrestling Rock Musical. He has also already flown up to New York and recorded his tracks for the concept album. So you’ll be able to hear Matt Cardona performing on the album that’ll come out the same day, and we just couldn’t be more excited. He’s such a great guy. He’s such a rock star performer.
“To have left the WWE on out and literally conquered the indie scene, one promotion at a time. You know, as he always says, he’s always ready. And that is truly his moniker across the board. Because when we pitched this to him, he said, I’m ready. Let’s do it. It sounds awesome. I see the potential of what this could be. And I’d love to be part of it. And we’re honored to have and so Matt Cardona. Come and see him live playing Alexander Swagger in Jersey City at the White Eagle Hall.”

James also explained the concept behind the rock musical, saying it was written by wrestling fans for wrestling fans.
“The Pro Wrestling Rock Musical The Last Match is a first-of-its-kind show,” Jeremiah James said. “So it is a fully immersive pro wrestling rock show so, unlike other traditional shows, this will never be in a classic theater. It is literally a wrestling event that happens to be a rock musical. And it was written by wrestling fans for wrestling fans. So anybody who is a lifelong wrestling fan like myself will walk into this place, and you’re going to be right at home. You’re literally going to walk into an arena setting. You’re going to see everything you know from either a house show or a TV taping. It is literally written to be a love letter to the wrestling business.”
