Will Ospreay‘s recent kidney issues were much more serious than anyone knew.
In May, Will Ospreay was forced to withdraw from several events due to a kidney infection. RevPro first announced that Ospreay would be unable to compete on May 22 due to a kidney infection. Warrior Wrestling later said that Ospreay would miss his May 28 title defense due to the ongoing issue, and he was also pulled from the Best of Super Juniors event on June 3.
Ahead of his appearance in the G1 Climax 32 finals, Ospreay took to Twitter to share how serious the ailment was, explaining that he nearly died from the infection.
“So it’s not really spoken about enough but May I nearly died. My infection was that serious,” he wrote. “Came back in 2 weeks. 3 months from that point, tomorrow I’m in the G1 Final on NJPW 50th Anniversary. I wish I could hear your voices. But I’ll fight with everything I’ve got.”
Ospreay made a surprise appearance on AEW Dynamite on June 6 and later made his return to the ring on AEW Rampage two days later. He went on to win the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship on June 12. Now, he’ll face Kazuchika Okada in the G1 tournament finals on August 18.
Ospreay defeated Tetsuya Naito in the first semi-final match in the G1 Climax tournament, while Kazuchika Okada defeated Tama Tonga in the other.
