Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark are ready for their breakout moment.
The duo are two of the most prominent stars in NXT‘s women’s division, but they will make their debuts on the main roster as part of the tournament for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Tournament.
During an appearance on WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves, Stark and Lyons recalled their reactions to finding out about their spots in the bracket. Stark noted that she was very excited and she practically felt like a little kid again.
“I was very excited because I go back to me as a child, the six-year-old little girl would be freaking out, jumping out of her chair and everything,” said Stark. “So I had to use all of my composure and just sink in that moment.
As for Lyons, she stated that it’s crazy because Stark helped her back at her WWE tryout, and now they’re teaming up together on this major platform. She emphasized that she’s very grateful for the opportunity.
“It’s literally insane,” said Lyons. “I remember, Zoey was at my tryout, and she was the one pushing me, like, ‘Let’s go, girl, attack the ropes’, giving me advice. Now getting to team with her and be in this tag team tournament, it’s literally mind-blowing and I am a six-year-old little girl jumping up and down when I found out. It’s amazing, and I’m extremely grateful.”
Stark described how they have some nerves, but they’re also exited to show the world what they can do.
“I think we’re both still trying to process the information today because it just wasn’t something that either of us were expecting,” said Stark. “So a lot of excitement, but very, very nervous. But we’re also very prepared and really prepared to show everyone what the NXT girls can do.”
When asked about their approach to getting ready for for the match, Lyons explained that she has been focusing on mental preparation by visualizing, manifesting, and meditating.
“A lot of it is mentally preparing, and I’m very big on law of attraction, manifesting, visualizing,” said Lyons. “Every night, I will be visualizing when we walk out. I will be mentally preparing alongside with us working in the ring together, which we are already doing, but even more so now, and mentally preparing every single night.
“I will be on my meditation, for real. A lot of people are like, ‘Oh, she’s wacko.’ But listen, it works, clearly. So the mental preparation and reminding myself of all that work that we’ve both been through. The different paths brought us to the same place, and I’m a strong believer in everything happens for a reason.”
Likewise, Stark stated that she’s hoping to literally make her dreams a reality by taking items off her dream board once she accomplishes them.
“I have a dream board at home, right in front of my door,” said Stark. “It’s RAW, SmackDown, all the championships, and all that. Now I’m gonna finally be able to take one of those off, SmackDown, and then hopefully that becomes a permanent thing after that.”
The tournament began on the August 8 episode of WWE RAW, and it will continue on the August 12 edition of SmackDown.
