Ric Flair comments on his last match and stated that it was “big” for him.
On July 31, the WWE Hall of Famer returned to the ring for the first time since 2011 and teamed up with Andrade El Idolo to face Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarett at the Ric Flair’s Last Match event. Flair and Andrade emerged victorious as the legend showed the world what he could do one last time.
In an interview with Michael Morales of Lucha Libre Online, Flair made it clear that he’s happy with how the bout turned out. He noted that he was glad he got to go out with his family there in attendance.
“Yeah I’m very happy with it,” said Flair. “I needed to give it one more shot. I feel like I didn’t go out the right way, and to be have the relationship now that I do with Andrade and Charlotte and to have son-in-law like him and for him to tag with me, to have the whole family there, knowing his family, who I’ve gotten to know well, watched it from Mexico, I think it was big for all of us. Especially big for me because my entire family there, and how many people get an opportunity to do that twice? Once in 2008 in Shawn Michaels and now with my son-in-law in Nashville, it was big.”
Flair was also asked about his tag team partner, Andrade, and “The Nature Boy” spoke highly of him, saying he’s one of the top five performers in the business today.
“The business is different now, and it’s not who’s the toughest, it’s not who’s the best,” said Flair. “It’s not who’s the most qualified. Sometimes it’s the politics, and that’s just the reality of the business. But with his level of skill and the way he has passion, the level of skill and passion and his dedication to the business will take him wherever he wants to be. He’s young, he’s handsome, incredible physique, and incredible physique. He’ll do whatever he wants to do, and he’ll be very successful. Right now I feel like he’s one of the top five performers in the business today.”
