Kaun recently looked back on the importance of Shane Taylor Promotions, noting that the way the group participated in the showcase of diverse groups of Black men in wrestling was “awesome.”
Throughout his time with Ring of Honor, Kaun was a member of STP alongside Shane Taylor, Moses, O’Shay Edwards, and Ron Hunt. The group had a dominant and lengthy reign as the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions, and though ROH’s hiatus and subsequently aquation forced the group to somewhat go their separate ways, STP’s legacy cannot be denied.
Speaking with PWMania, Kaun reflected on his run with the stable. When asked about its importance, he described how the faction meant a lot to people because it gave them hope; STP featured a group of men who are reaching to be the best they could be, and in doing so, they inspired people. All the while, they represented Black excellence and Black culture
“I missed Nation of Domination growing up, but you see groups now that come together, especially of black men, and it’s always like how we’re the Nation of Domination,” he said. “I’m thankful for New Day who came along. They’re just three men who are friends who are together in a group and can do whatever they like. To have them, us, and The Hurt Business at the same time, to see that representation was awesome. To me, it’s always been important to showcase these diverse groups of black and African men.
“To give those fans hope, and someone to look up to meant a lot to me. We’re all college educated, we all have this mentality of being better than we are. I’m kind of speechless honestly, to see how much we did, how much we accomplished, to see how much we meant to people was surreal.”
Kaun signed with AEW and, by extension, ROH earlier this year. Taylor and the other members of STP remain active on the independent circuit, and no matter where they are, all of them keep chasing STP’s mission of changing the business for the better.
