Despite popular belief, Athena didn’t come up with her O-Face finishing move.
Athena was the latest guest on the AEW Unrestricted podcast with Aubrey Edwards and Alex Abrahantes to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the origin of her finishing move, the O-Face, Athena tells about how she got the move and the name in the first place.
“So I actually did not create my finisher,” Athena revealed. “I know it’s crazy. I say this all the time because the person that created the finisher, his name is Gigolo James Johnson, and he created the move. When he retired or was going to retire, the first time I asked him, I said, Hey, could you teach me how to do this? And he goes, if it was anyone else, I would say no, but Okay, and so like eight painful months later, I finally figured out how to do it, but I was doing it off the second rope.
“Which is a lot harder because you don’t have enough room to like you have to go there’s no room. So I was getting off the second because I’m afraid of heights, and Booker was the one that got me to start doing it off the top rope, but that’s the reason why I call it the O-Face. So that was the only condition of me keeping the move. In doing the move was that I had to continue to name it the O-Face. With all that information. My man being a gigolo. I want you to go look at what O-Face means. Because I’m not gonna say it on here. I feel like we’re unrestricted. But I’m classy. I’m a classy, broad dammit.”
