The time period between Ring of Honor Final Battle and Supercard of Honor left a lot of talents like Matt Taven very uncertain about their future.
IMPACT Wrestling‘s Matt Taven was recently interviewed by NBC Sports Boston to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked if there were any plans to use him at Supercard of Honor before the company was bought by Tony Khan, Taven attempts to explain the crazy things that went on between Final Battle and the sale of Ring of Honor.
“Yes and no, I mean, and I feel bad because you do hear that there was definitely talks about doing Supercard, and there was different matches floated around to me,” Matt Taven said. “And at the same time, I’m doing my thing with IMPACT. But you must take everything with a grain of salt because there was always a feeling of everything was up in the air, to be completely honest. In those three months, it was very chaotic for everyone.
“Everyone’s trying to scramble to figure out what the future holds in general for their lives, and so on top of all that, you’re getting info that’s constantly changing. Once you’re around wrestling enough, you get to know like, oh, I kind of don’t believe anything until I see it until I get like a plane ticket or the graphics on the internet. I kind of just kind of say, Yeah, okay, I like that. That’s okay. We’ll see. You know what happens.
“So there definitely was talk about me doing Supercard, and that was always one of the things when I first went to IMPACT was, ‘Hey, we’ll allow you to do IMPACT, and we’ll get back with you coming into Supercard.’ And then the sale happens, and everything goes out the window. And then also IMPACT wants to, at that point, make sure that are you going to stick around here, whatever the case may be. So it was a wild west feeling from basically October to about April.
“It was very much you would hear a couple of things, then that would be out the window, then you’d hear some different stuff, and now it’d be out the window. So you just kind of get used to letting things go in one ear and kind out the other a little bit but remembering that, oh, maybe that is on the table. So I can’t explain it more than that.
“Every time people ask about it, I almost have to just throw my hands up. It’s like, yeah, I guess I was told that and told a million things that maybe this could happen, maybe, but that’s wrestling. You know, it’s just kind of the name of the game is that it changes so quickly. It’s every wrestler that you probably have ever met could tell you a million stories of things that they were told that never came to fruition.”
