Brock Lesnar ultimately made an appearance on SmackDown this week.
To close this week’s SmackDown, Brock Lesnar made his way out to the ring to beat down Mr. Money in the Bank Theory. This came after Theory and The Usos lost to Madcap Moss and the Street Profits by disqualification, thanks to Theory’s briefcase.
Lesnar was advertised to appear on SmackDown all week, but a late report of him walking out of the show in Boston made rounds following the news on Friday. SmackDown commentators Michael Cole and Pat McAfee did allude to Lesnar’s rumored disappearance during the broadcast but did not elaborate beyond “I thought…,” and “I thought so, too,” comments.
According to a subsequent update from Fightful, WWE pulled Lesnar from ads after he left the venue as they weren’t sure he’d be at the show. It was noted that the situation was “overblown” but a source said that they were sure Lesnar would end up returning or be featured on the show. Furthermore, it was stated that Lesnar’s mood was much improved upon returning to the building and while he was written out of the final script for the night, it was left in a way where he could be included if he returned.
PWInsider.com also reported that Lesnar was originally scheduled to appear in the first segment of Smackdown and then immediately leave to return home via his private plane.
“The Beast” is set to challenge WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a Last Man Standing match in the main event of SummerSlam next weekend. Bryan Alvarez reported that in response to Lesnar’s absence, there was “a replacement plan for SummerSlam in case Brock doesn’t return,” however that backup plan was never revealed. It appears that things have been smoothed over and Lesnar vs. Reigns is still a go.
