Don’t expect Sonjay Dutt to step back into the ring.
All Elite Wrestling producer Sonjay Dutt was a guest on the AEW Unrestricted podcast where he spoke about his arrival in the company and how it happened. Dutt is known for his in-ring work with TNA/IMPACT Wrestling, but he also served as a WWE producer for nearly two years. Dutt signed with AEW last summer and shared how he has a regular reminder that he made the right call.
“I don’t want to bore everybody with the details and a long story, but let’s just put it like this — my previous employer, [WWE], I kind of didn’t see Sonjay Dutt fitting in with the future in that company, so I made the moves that I needed to make to kind of feel fulfilled professionally once again. And everything kind of happens for a reason and everything kind of worked out. Coincidentally, next week will be one year since I joined AEW. At the beginning, when you quit a job, it’s a bit taxing mentally trying to figure out ‘Did I make the right decision? I’ve got a wife, I’ve got two kids…’ But I will say this, every single day in the past year since I’ve been in AEW, I realize that I made the right decision, absolutely.”
Later in the show, Sonjay Dutt was asked about a potential return to the ring but he said that barring a major change in his physical health, his in-ring days are over.
“Unlikely. There will be zero chance that I will be returning to the ring. Let’s put it this way — if I was fixed physically, my body was 100 percent, that would be something I would consider but until that happens, there’s no way I’m getting in the ring,” Dutt said. “I think that is one hat that I don’t need to put on.”
Dutt’s last match was against Jonathan Gresham at NOVA Pro’s “Such Great Heights” on December 28, 2017. He currently serves as the manager for Jay Lethal and Satnam Singh, and will be in Lethal’s corner when he challenges Samoa Joe for the ROH World Television Championship at Death Before Dishonor on July 23.
