Jay White On Potential Return To All Elite Wrestling: ‘Stay Tuned’

Jay White is keeping fans guessing in regards to his future in All Elite Wrestling.

During his post-show media scrum, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White commented on retaining his title by defeating three credible challengers in Adam Cole, Hangman Page and Kazuchika Okada and said people had better include his name on the list of greats.

“Let me just recap what I’ve been through tonight. Adam Cole Bay Bay, Cowboy Sh-t Hangman Adam Page, Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada. I just beat those three men, three men that I know a lot of you and everybody watching and I know even [Tony Khan] consider three of the best in the world. I just beat those three men in the same night at the same time.

“My left arm’s dead, I just went through a war, and I still came out the champion. On that note of beating those three at the same time, I said this before and I’m gonna keep saying this, from now on, when you talk about the greats, you make sure you say my name first.”

White was then asked whether he’d like to stick around in AEW or just take the title back to New Japan, and White said being champion affords him certain perks, so they’ll just have to wait and see where he shows up.

“If, and this seems to be a pretty big if, but if we could have someone that, when I come here and I successfully defend my IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, if we can have somebody that can be prepared to put this up [on the stand] for me, I’ll feel a lot more inclined to come back. I’m very easily pleased. Obviously, I don’t ask for a lot.

“To answer your question, would I like to? I don’t know. But will I? I don’t know. Because this is how it works. I don’t have to tell you anything. I don’t have to give anything. When you’re the champion, when you’re the guy that single-handedly sells out arenas like Madison Square Garden and United Center, you can kinda do what you want and show up when you want. So stay tuned I guess.”

As a follow-up, Jay White was asked if he has aspirations to face CM Punk and Bryan Danielson. White said that he doesn’t go looking for these “dream matches” and talent just flocks to him.

“I don’t. I’m sure they have those aspirations because I am the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, so what would be my motivation for going after someone like Bryan Danielson? CM Punk, fair enough, he has it for now, but I guess Moxley could end up taking it from him. So maybe it would be Mox that I would have to try and sort out a little balance with him at some point. I say this time and time again, I don’t go out seeking matches, especially any dream matches. That term really does make me sick. So that’s not something I go out to pursue. Everybody pursues me, everybody wants to be in the ring with me. Because look what happens. You get in the ring with me, and look it’s sold-out United Center, sold-our Madison Square Center. I’m the man, people want me.”
