Solo Sikoa is carving his own path in WWE NXT 2.0, without being directly associated with The Usos.
Sikoa is the younger brother of Jimmy and Jey Uso, the reigning Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, but he’s rarely referenced as a member of The Bloodline.
In an interview with BT Sport, Sikoa explained that, as a performer, he wants people to know him for who he is, rather than associating him with his brothers. He recalled how WWE initially pitched putting him with the duo, but the company ultimately decided to separate him from Jimmy and Jey.
“You know at the end of the day, man, it’s so easy to go back to, I’m their brother, I’m their family,” said Sikoa. “But at the end of the day man, it’s like I don’t want to be referred to [as] their brother, their cousin. I want people to recognize me for me. And I think before I started, before I debuted on TV, creative was like, ‘Let’s put you with your brothers.’ And then the next meeting was like, ‘Let’s see what you can do on your own.’
“And I felt like that was a fire there. Okay now this is my time. This is my time for fans to recognize me as Solo instead of, ‘Oh, you’re [with] Jimmy and Jey.’ And before man, I had black hair, so we all really did look alike. But I was kinda the bigger one. We had different sizes and shapes. Now again nine months later man, people know Solo, that’s Solo. That ain’t Jimmy and Jey. People know me now.
When asked about his reaction to the pitch that would have seen him work with his brothers, Sikoa noted that it would have been cool, but he felt like he would have been in their shadow.
“I was like, ‘Okay, that will be cool man. That will be cool,’ because I think that’s when they started saying, ‘We The Ones,’ that’s when they started doing that and throwing the ones up. But I was like, ‘I don’t know man, I still feel like I’ll be in their shadows. I need to step out. I need to me. The world needs to see me. They already seen them, they already seen what they can do.’ But it all worked out just fine.”
