Dana White was indeed informed by AEW President Tony Khan that WWE Money in the Bank was moving venues.
On the Spinnin’ Backfist MMA podcast, the topic of Money in the Bank moving from Allegiant Stadium to the smaller MGM Grand Garden Arena was brought up. The UFC president confirmed he learned the news during a dinner with Tony Khan.
“Yeah, that actually happened that night we were at dinner,” said White. “I think, to be fair to WWE, they were probably looking at it as their ticket prices are a lot cheaper and a lot of people would be in town. I don’t know, but yeah… International Fight Week is a rough week to do it.”
WWE Money in the Bank and UFC 276 will go head-to-head in Las Vegas on Saturday, July 2. UFC 276 will emanate from T-Mobile Arena as part of the 10th annual International Fight Week, which spans June 27 through July 3.
The week-long celebration draws comparisons to WWE’s WrestleMania week as it includes UFC’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony, amateur tournaments, and a two-day interactive fan experience.
WWE first ran Allegiant Stadium for last year’s SummerSlam. Ticket sales were reportedly not doing well for Money in the Bank, prompting the change. WWE spun the news as best as they could on TV by announcing a move to the “more intimate” MGM arena.
