A new IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion was crowned in the nation’s capital on Saturday. Juice Robinson defeated three bonafide NJPW stars to win the title and become a three-time US Champ. Juice pinned Will Ospreay, despite Ospreay’s foot being under the bottom rope.
Ospreay will likely add this to his list of complaints against NJPW, as the former-IWGP World Heavyweight Champion grows more and more sure of a conspiracy against him. The four way battle, that also included AEW’s Jon Moxley and IWGP United States Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi, was a blistering, bloody, violent affair.
Elsewhere on the show, Hikuleo finally made it clear where his allegiances lie. After a big tag match against Kazuchika Okada and Rocky Romero, Hikuleo tried to recruit his brother Tanga Loa back to Bullet Club. When Loa rebuked the offer, Hikuleo walked off with Bullet Club leader Jay White, leaving a schism in the Tongan dynasty.
Tomohiro Ishii defended the school of Strong Style against the King’s Road-influenced Eddie Kingston. The two brawlers beat the holy hell out of each other in a bruising match.
Plus, Brody King practically put Minoru Suzuki through the canvas on his way to beating the former-Triple Crown Champion, TMDK welcomed Bad Dude Tito into the fold, and Team Filthy got a big win ahead of Tom Lawlor’s NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship defense against Fred Rosser.
