Matt Hardy is very happy that All Elite Wrestling is honoring the legacy of the late Owen Hart with the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. It was Hardy who requested that the most recent episode of Extreme Life focus on the life and legacy of the late great King of Harts as both Matt and Jeff Hardy wrestled Owen in the early days of their wrestling career. Later in the episode, Matt talked about how much he’s looking forward to Owen getting his love from the wrestling promotion he works for.
“I’m so happy, I’m not going to go into this now, but I’m so happy that AEW is going to be celebrating the life and career of Owen Hart through this Owen Hart tournament and also through producing different Owen Hart merchandise as well,” Matt said to co-host Jon Alba. “I’m so happy that Martha and Owen’s memory and their kids are going to be able to be honored somewhere in the pro wrestling venue.”
Matt then talked about when he first heard about the AEW/Martha Hart relationship coming to fruition which started about a year ago.
“I heard about it from Chris Jericho who kind of made this a reality in a lot of ways,” he said. “He was kind of like the inner connection between Martha and the family and AEW so I know he talked about things he was willing to do and it just sounded so cool and he knew obviously that I was one of the guys who actually worked with Owen and knew him personally so he was pretty excited to share that and I thought that was a pretty cool detail.”
Both Matt and Jon agreed to how much impact Owen has had on today’s AEW product.
“I have all the confidence in the world that Tony Khan is going to do his best to make Owen hart the legend and once again, lay in front of you the legacy of his career and all his contributions to pro wrestling and a lot of his contributions led to the formation of AEW and the style of AEW.”
