The ties between Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley formed long before their time together in WWE and All Elite Wrestling.
Back in 2010, the future members of The Blackpool Combat Club went to war inside of a Dragon Gate USA ring. The interesting thing is, they almost did it without one as Gabe Sapolsky recalled on social media on Thursday:
“A fascinating “what if” almost happened with this match. This was one of the worst, most stressful days as a promoter as our ring guy got in a fight the previous night unbeknownst to us. This was an afternoon show and we sat there waiting for the ring to arrive. The soul crushing feeling of having your ring disappear on you with no one returning calls or picking up the phone is indescribable. We desperately called around and eventually got a ring at a jacked up price. While all this was going on, Bryan and Jon started getting excited about having a match with no ring. They actually came to me and pitched the idea of how they could save the show and put on an entertaining fight with no ring. Fortunately, we didn’t have to go that route, but looking back this would have been Bloodsport. I’m still thankful to this day that Bryan and Jon were so cool, calm & caring about putting on a super unique match that day and giving the fans value if there was no ring. Needless to say, they delivered big time in the regular match and it’s amazing to see them teaming now,” Gabe Sapolsky said in a series of tweets.
