Brody King has worked with some of the most renowned competitors in the world, and he believes Rocky Romero ranks near the top of the list of the best wrestlers in the business.
Romero, 39, has been wrestling since 1997, and he has won titles in various promotions. Over the past year or so, he has been featured in most major companies, as he has wrestled on AEW, NJPW, ROH, and IMPACT Programming. The eight-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion is widely respected for both his in-ring skill and his mind for the business.
During an appearance on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Brody King, who trained under Romero earlier in his career, called him one of the best wrestlers on the planet. He commended the veteran’s ability to make his opponents shine, and he also described how Romero is the rare kind of person who everyone wants to interact with.
“He’s done it all, and he has been in the business for so long, he’s known so many people and he’s one of the best wrestlers on the planet, bar none,” said King. “He will make anyone look incredible, and also just entertain his ass off in front of anybody. It’s no wonder why he’ll show up on IMPACT or he’ll show up on AEW or Ring of Honor or anywhere and just like kill it. And everyone wants him there. It’s really rare that you see somebody come around and the entire locker room is like oh s—, Rocky’s here, everyone has to go say hi to him and talk to him because he’s just that guy. And it’s not a fake thing at all, like he’s just a good human being.”
In the same interview, King was asked how beneficial the experience of training with Romero was for him. The AEW star explained that the latter taught him a lot and helped him make connections. He also stated that Romero helped him get into NJPW and ROH in the first place.
“He played a huge part in my career and in wrestling in general,” said King. “He kind of opened the door for me to go to New Japan, for me to go to Ring of Honor, and I think without him, I wouldn’t have had a lot of the connections or experiences I’ve had so far.”
King signed with AEW in January, and he has been featured as a founding member of the House of Black ever since.
