Baron Black recently spoke with WrestleZone’s Dominic DeAngelo about Battle Slam Vendetta on April 24 in Atlanta. Battle Slam converges pro wrestling and hip-hop for “one blazin’ event” and Black talks about how it’s separate from his Terminus promotion with Jonathan Gresham, what to expect at the show and more.
“BattleSlam is a brother promotion of Terminus, it’s a partnered promotion of Terminus and it’s being connected to Terminus in ways that will be revealed in the future, but Battle Slam does stand on its own,” Black explained. “It’s a one-of-a-kind show and it’s something that people really thought should’ve been done, a long time ago. And I took it upon myself because Battle Slam is powered by me, Baron Black, and I took it upon myself to make two worlds converge into one epic event. And it’s pro wrestling and hip-hop, converged into one epic event, one night, here in Atlanta as Battle Slam presents Vendetta.”

Like the “directives” in effect at Terminus events, Battle Slam also has specific rules to abide by. Black explained how the two promotions are connected, but Battle Slam will have its own culture and rules.
“There will be a few things that will connect Terminus and BattleSlam but as far as the directives go…no, the Terminus directives are exclusive to Terminus. Now, there might be some elements from Terminus that people are now used to after the two shows, those two successful shows with Terminus 1 and Terminus 2 that you may see in BattleSlam but it’s going to be its very own experience, it’s very own ruleset,” Black said. “BattleSlam is going to bring, obviously a whole different element with bringing the culture of hip-hop to pro wrestling, finally, in a huge wrestling live performance cross-over event.”
‘Vendetta’ draws inspiration from the 2003 video game Def Jam Vendetta, and Black explained how the event finally came together with help from the Atlanta and pro wrestling community.
“[The game] became a cult classic with and nothing could’ve went more perfectly together than these two cultures and these two entities and these two worlds. Ever since the game came out, everyone has always wondered, could an event like this ever happen? And how this came about is I had quite a few people actually watch Terminus that were very important figures in the industry and very, very important figures in Atlanta as a whole, even from the government standpoint. So, I had gotten a lot of interest in running different events here in Atlanta and one of the things that came up, was a [traditional] hip-hop event and ya know, that was already in the back of my head. So, talks were made, phone calls were made, discussions were made and then I got connected with the right people and now you see this event is finally happening and I’m very excited for what we’re about to present when hip-hop finally collided with pro wrestling.”
Battle Slam Vendetta takes place on Sunday, April 24 at the Oasis Event Center in Atlanta. Tickets for the event are available now.
