Randy Orton wants his kids to do the dishes just like any other parent.
The Viper was recently a guest on Out of Character with Ryan Satin to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked if he feels that he’s mellowed out a bit about things later in his career, Orton believes that he has thanks to his kids.
“Yeah, I think with age, and I just kind I see the big picture,” Randy Orton said. “It’s seeing my five-year-old daughter ride a roller coaster for the first time and the look on her face after she gets off, and she wants to go again and enjoying that, getting to see everything that she sees through her eyes for the first time, enjoying that like I get my kicks in that way. I still enjoy RKOing someone off the top rope like no one else can with just the perfect timing that makes everyone go nuts. That’s my drug of choice, but then a close second is being at home and chilling and not having to answer to anybody else or talk about wrestling. It’s nice to get a little bit of a reprieve. But my passion is in this ring. And I don’t think that’ll ever change.”
When asked if his life is more about hanging out with his kids than anything else when he’s home, Orton said it was and that he’s just like any other parent that wants their kid to do the dishes.
“100%, I get to the gym, and I’ll get treatment on whatever ails me that week physically,” Randy Orton said. “But other than that, I’m at home, and I’m taking out the trash, and I’m helping the kids with homework, and I’m yelling at my teenager Rob to wash the dishes. I ask that kid every damn day. I want an empty sink before you go to bed. Is it that hard? And a sink full of dishes, and he knows his mother will clean the sink the next morning, and you won’t have to do it, but that’s what I’m dealing with. I’m just like all of you parents. There’s no difference.”
When asked if he’s having more fun now on WWE programming than in the past, Orton confirmed that he was for a variety of reasons. One of them being his RK-Bro tag team partner Riddle.
“Yeah, I used to have a lot of fun like out of the ring on the road, getting to see the towns and stuff in my 20s. Right now, the fun for me is being able to leave that ring and know that everybody that was watching had a good time like I’m not as selfish with the kind of fun I want to have,” Randy Orton said. “I enjoy making sure that my body’s in as tip-top shape as it can be to wake up that next morning and do what I got to do to deliver my best performance on RAW, whereas before, I’d be more concerned with maybe the nightlife like in my younger years, and this is a long time ago.
“But that’s just another example. I think, growing up in the business, where I was, and where I’m at now, and I look back, it’s like a lifetime ago. I feel like, in some respects, and this is morbid to say, but that I’m lucky to be here right now. And I believe that to be true, and because of that like, there’s so many things that I feel like I have to do because of that, and one of those things for the business that’s given me everything is giving back as much as it’s given me and I got to see Triple H last night. And I hugged that grown man as hard as I could, and I got emotional just because of this announcement this last weekend, and we had just a few words between one another, but you don’t have forever.
“This is a really special close-knit group of guys and girls, and this is where it’s at to us. This is everything, and you never know when it’s going to be taken away from you. So all of that kind of makes me appreciate the now more, and Riddle being one of those as well. I obviously didn’t like him too much in the beginning that was very real. But I love the guy now; he’s great. And he’s definitely motivated me to give it a little more effort, and he’s making it more fun for me too.”
