The opening night of WWE WrestleMania 38 kicked off with the SmackDown Tag Team Championship bout, where The Usos defended the gold against Rick Boogs and Shinsuke Nakamura. WWE‘s resident guitarist kicked off the party by playing the challengers to the ring.

Nakamura started the bout with Jimmy Uso and quickly took control. The Usos overcame this initial surge and gained the upper hand until Boogs tagged in and gained momentum with a flurry of offense. He dropped Jey with a stalling suplex. Boogs went down hard when he tried to lift both Usos, as his knee gave out. Nakamura tagged in and showcased some of his signature moves. The Usos double-teamed Nakamura and planted him with the 1-D for the win. In doing so, they retained the titles they won at WWE Money in the Bank 2021.

Boogs was checked on by medical officials and helped to the back after the match; he never tagged in after he apparently hurt his knee.
