Nightingale commented on the announcement via her Twitter, stating, “I wrestled Mercedes Martinez in 2018 for my SHIMMER debut and since then, I’ve grown and improved exponentially. With that said, I know a massive challenge lies ahead, but I’m ready to duel it out with honor.”
Martinez has been with AEW since December 2021 and went on as a hired hand for then AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker. She later aligned herself with current AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa. Willow Nightingale has been one of independent wrestling’s hottest stars as she’s made stops on AEW Dark (most notably in the spring of 2021), Major League Wrestling and Ring Of Honor as well.
