The road to WrestleMania is unclear for Kofi Kingston.
The former WWE Champion has been featured on WWE SmackDown in recent weeks, but when it comes to WrestleMania, he’s currently on the outside looking in. In a recent interview, the New Day star explained that he doesn’t know what his short-term future holds.
During an appearance on the Bart Winkler Show, Kingston stated he’s unsure about WWE’s plans for his place on the card for “The Showcase of the Immortals.” He also expressed his hope that his stablemate Xavier Woods will return so they can “mix it up” with other tag teams.
“With regards to what I’m gonna be doing at WrestleMania, I don’t know, I’m not sure,” said Kingston. “Hopefully Woods will be back and we can mix it up with some of these tag teams out there but everything is up in the air. You never know what is going to happen leading up to WrestleMania, and that’s why it’s so exciting right now because we really just don’t know.”
Woods had been sidelined with a torn plantaris since January until he recently returned to the ring at a live event. Still, his absence from WWE TV continues. The King of the Ring winner’s injury isn’t the only setback the New Day has been dealing with. Former WWE Champion Big E recently went down with a broken neck, and during the same interview, Kingston confirmed that the powerhouse won’t be cleared in time for WrestleMania.
“With regards to E, for those who don’t know, he actually broke his neck a couple weeks ago, and luckily, I say luckily, but he fractured his C1 and his C6, and it wasn’t any worse than that,” said Kingston. “He didn’t have any spinal cord damage, he didn’t have any misalignment. He is moving around pretty well, all things considered, and now it’s just a matter of rest and recovery. He will not be available for WrestleMania, for sure, I can guarantee you that.”
Time will tell whether Kingston has a match at WWE WrestleMania, with or without Woods.
