Kevin Owens is one of the many people that remember how much of an impact Scott Hall had on the wrestling world.
News of Scott Hall’s untimely passing broke as the March 14 episode of WWE RAW went on the air, and the wrestling world has continued to share memories of the lasting effect the “Bad Guy” had on everyone’s lives. WWE star Kevin Owens spoke with Abe Kanan and delved into his favorite memories of Hall, noting that nobody will ever be as cool as the man formerly known as Razor Ramon.
“I didn’t get to spend as much time around Scott as I wish I had but every chance I ever got to be around him, he was so cool, so helpful. There’s a lot of veterans in our industry you end up meeting and end up thinking ‘oh, I really wish I hadn’t met that guy’ because they think they know better and they look at our generation as dumb kids almost, no matter how long we’ve been doing this and Scott Hall was not one of those. He was a guy that wanted to help everybody that he talked to and ya know, he was such a funny guy, just really entertaining to be around.
“My thoughts really go out to his family and to his friends, I was texting with some of his buddies this morning and it’s really hard for everyone. But like I said on Twitter, I think his legacy both in and out of the ring, whether it be as a man or as a character, there won’t ever be anybody as cool as him in this industry. He was just the coolest. If you watched him in the ring or just the way that he carried himself or the way he spoke or the way he worked, this guy is just cool, he’s the definition of cool. He’s gonna be really missed, it’s really shocking, it’s very unfortunate.”
Kevin Owens touted Kevin Nash’s Instagram post honoring Hall, saying it goes to show how special Hall was both in and out of the ring.
“I had heard that Scott was on life support yesterday and then I saw Kevin’s post this morning and he kind of broke the news that we were all worried about after hearing that he was on life support or whatever and something had happened to him. I can’t imagine what Kevin was feeling as he wrote that but it was really beautiful. It’s a testament to Scott Hall as a man to have somebody say that about him and Kevin is just one of many people that have already stepped forward and talked about what Scott had meant to them and I’m sure that’s going to keep happening here as the days go by.”

Scott Hall famously took part in the company’s first-ever ladder match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania X where he won the Undisputed Intercontinental Championship, a match that many still claim was the greatest ladder match of all time. Kevin Owens was quick to call Hall the ‘King of the ladder match’, then called back to himself asking Hall for advice ahead of his first WrestleMania match at WrestleMania 32, where he competed in a ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship.
“I met him so many times and we had several great little encounters and exchanges but my favorite one was probably right before my first WrestleMania, I was in a ladder match for that WrestleMania and as I’m running from the locker room to the Gorilla position, ya know, where the entrances are, we’re about to come out, the match is just a mere minutes away and as I’m rushing over there, because we were the first match and I really wanted to see the intro to the show, ya know the opening package and all that stuff.
“So, as I’m running by, I see Scott Hall and X-PAC side-by-side and I couldn’t help it, even though I was in a rush I had to ask, I go ‘Scott, you’re the king of ladder matches at WrestleMania, you got any advice?’ and he just looks at me and went ‘No. You talked about it, now go do it!’ [laughs]. That just sums it up, like ‘go do it!’ it was actually captured on film, if you go watch the DVD that WWE made about me a few years ago, you see that moment, just the way he says it, it doesn’t sound like real advice but he says it in such a way, it instilled this confidence into me, like, ‘yeah, I’m gonna go do it, man!’”
Scott Hall passed away on Monday due to complications following hip surgery. Everyone at WrestleZone would like to send our thoughts and condolences to Hall, his family and his friends.
