JBL Would Come Out of Retirement For ‘Something That Would Be Worth Seeing’

John Bradshaw Layfield, also known as JBL, hasn’t wrestled since WWE WrestleMania 25 in 2009, aside from a very brief appearance in the 2014 Royal Rumble match.

But the WWE Hall of Famer remains a prominent member of the wrestling world, given his impressive legacy. Plus, the Texan recently took to social media to respond to WWE RAW star Kevin Owens’s repeated criticism of “The Lone Star State”, prompting some fans to wonder whether JBL could potentially lace his boots up one more time.

In an interview with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, the former WWE Champion explained that he’d potentially be willing to come out of retirement if the storyline was right; he’d only want to return for something that fans would want to see. That said, he’s “not worried” about getting into shape if needed/

“If I thought I could do something that would be worth seeing, yes,” said JBL. “And that’s really it, I’m not worried about my health, I’m not worried about getting into shape. I can do that. I just wanna be able to put out something people wanna see. I don’t wanna go out there and do something and people go, “That was terrible”. It really is something – if I thought I could do something that people would be interested in and enjoy, then yeah, of course.”

To clarify, JBL isn’t actively pitching to wrestle again, but he remains very passionate about the business. He noted that he still misses the thrill of performing in a ring and admitted that it’s hard to replace that high.

“When you’re dead, you’re dead, and when you’re dead it’s over – but when you’re retired, you’re not dead,” said JBL. “You still have that passion, and there’s nothing that can fill that void.”

Regardless of any potential in-ring return, wrestling fans can listen to JBL talk about the industry on his podcast with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco, Stories With Brisco and Bradshaw.
