Ric Flair keeps his finger on the pulse of pro wrestling’s current day product and knows that the game has changed. On the most recent edition of Ric Flair Wooooo Nation UNCENSORED, Flair was asked about the brutal and violent Texas Death Match between Hangman Page and Lance Archer on the 2/9 episode of AEW Dynamite. Co-host Mark Madden questioned having a stipulation to that match with little to no build, but Flair had a more direct outlook on the bout.
“I like blood. I like all that and both those guys can work. Mark, they do stuff on TV on WWE where they make things happen on one segment,” he said. Mark made clarification that he likes donning of one crimson mask as well, but still questioned lack of build to such a stipulation.
“We all thought that used to be the formula, but it’s not anymore,” Flair responded. “Please. The formula changes each week, but if I’m a fan, I don’t mind it, but I like the guys I don’t care what they do as long as they do it on TV and they’re kicking ass I love it.”
Next, Madden questioned Jake Roberts at his age getting physical with the World Champion Page. Does it make Page look “lesser than?”
“I’ll answer that by saying was Harley Race too old for me to beat?,” Flair asked before continuing. “It’s not the point, it’s all a work. Hey and the crowd blew on it, right? Jake’s over, he always has been. It’s not anymore, Mark, what you and I unfortunately think is right or wrong, it’s what gets the crowd going and Jake hit him with that short clothesline and when a guy is all tore up like that, why not bump for him?”
